Severe thunderstorms that moved through central Maryland Saturday evening knocked out power for more than 80,000 BGE customers, with Harford, Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties taking the hardest hits.
What happened: Strong winds brought down trees, limbs, utility poles and power lines across the region, creating hazardous conditions and widespread outages.
Restoration efforts: BGE crews were working through the night to assess damage and make repairs. Additional crews from outside the region were arriving Sunday to help speed up restoration.
What’s still unknown: BGE had not released a timeline for when power would be fully restored.
Safety warning: BGE is urging residents to stay at least 35 feet away from any downed wires and to assume all downed lines are energized and dangerous. Outages can be reported through the BGE mobile app, at bge.com/outage, or by texting OUT to 69243.
