A Gaithersburg man found lying in the road early Wednesday had been shot in the chest. Montgomery County detectives are investigating his death as a homicide.

What’s Happening: Rockville City police officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded at about 12:25 a.m. to a report of a person down in the 200 block of North Washington Street.

The man was identified as 33-year-old Richard Ulysses Hernandez. He died at the scene despite efforts to save his life.

What’s Important: Hernandez’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The medical examiner found that a gunshot wound to the chest caused his death and ruled it a homicide.
