The National Weather Service has placed every county in Maryland and Baltimore City under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. Monday.

What’s Happening: The watch covers all 23 Maryland counties and Baltimore City. It is one of three overlapping watches issued by the National Weather Service, together covering a large portion of the mid-Atlantic region including parts of Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.

What’s Important: A severe thunderstorm watch means weather conditions are favorable for severe storms to develop — not that one is already occurring. Residents should stay aware of changing conditions through the evening.

How This Affects Real People: Anyone with outdoor plans Monday evening across the state should monitor forecasts and be ready to take shelter if a warning is issued.
