Residents in St. Mary’s County can now file vandalism reports online through the Sheriff’s Office’s Digital Online Reporting System, which expanded this week to include eligible property damage cases.

What’s Happening: The Sheriff’s Office added vandalism to its list of crimes that qualify for online reporting. Eligible vandalism reports include graffiti, damaged mailboxes, broken windows, and other intentional property damage.

What’s Important: Not all vandalism cases qualify. Residents who witness vandalism in progress or who know who caused the damage cannot use the online system. Those cases require a direct call to the Sheriff’s Office at (301) 475-8008, or 911 in an emergency.

How This Affects Real People: The online system lets residents file non-emergency reports without waiting for an in-person response from a deputy. The full list of eligible report types includes:

  • Fraud.
  • Hit-and-run crashes.
  • Identity theft.
  • Lost property.
  • Single-vehicle crashes.
  • Vandalism.

Residents can access the system at FirstSheriff.com by clicking the Digital Online Reporting System link on the homepage.
