Thirty years have passed since Carl Gillespie was found dead at a Charles County intersection, and whoever killed him has never been held accountable.
According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a death investigation at the intersection of St. Charles Parkway and Billingsley Road at approximately 5 p.m. on August 5, 1996. When they arrived, they found a deceased man, later identified as Gillespie, who was 22 years old. He was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an investigation revealed he had suffered a gunshot wound. His death was ruled a homicide.
The case has never been solved.
Last week — the 30th anniversary of his death — the Sheriff’s Office revisited the case publicly as part of its ongoing “Pursuit of Justice: Charles County Cold Case Files” series, asking anyone with information to come forward.
Investigators are offering a combined reward of up to $10,000 through Crime Solvers and the Sheriff’s Office for any tip that leads to an arrest or indictment. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-866-411-TIPS.
