A fire near Dobbin Road in Oakland destroyed a greenhouse and two camper trailers July 30. A State Fire Marshal investigation has led to four felony charges against 43-year-old Chad Edward Care of Hedgesville, West Virginia.
What’s Happening: Deputy State Fire Marshals served Care with a criminal summons Thursday morning at Deep Creek Lake in Garrett County. The deputies who served the summons work from the State Fire Marshal’s Western Region Office.
Care faces:
- First-degree arson.
- Second-degree arson.
- Two counts of first-degree malicious burning.
All four charges are felonies.
What’s Important: Deputy State Fire Marshals and accelerant-detection K-9 Quinn went to the area near the 0 block of Dobbin Road after the fire was reported at about 4:50 p.m. July 30.
According to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, investigators determined one of the property owners intentionally set the fire after a family dispute. The account does not explicitly identify Care as the property owner who set the fire.
What We Know: The flames destroyed one greenhouse and two camper trailers. The loss was estimated at $40,000.
The Gorman Fire Department extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.
The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office assisted Deputy State Fire Marshals with the investigation.
