Wegmans customers at eight Maryland stores raised more than $34,000 for local food banks during a two-week checkout donation drive that ended June 17.

What’s Happening: The campaign, called Fill the Bus or Fill the Backpack, ran June 3 to June 17. Shoppers were asked to donate at checkout, with all money going directly to the food bank serving each store’s community.

By the Numbers: Maryland donations by location:

  • Maryland Food Bank: $8,860 (Hunt Valley and Owings Mills stores)
  • Howard County Community Action Council: $7,845 (Columbia)
  • Harford Community Action Agency: $3,921 (Bel Air)
  • Manna Food Center: $4,095 (Germantown)
  • City of Frederick: $3,329 (Frederick)
  • Anne Arundel County Food Bank: $3,024 (Crofton)
  • So What Else: $2,167 (Rockville)
  • Shabach Ministries: $1,126 (Woodmore)

What’s Important: The donations fund summer feeding and backpack programs that provide food to school-age children when free and reduced-price school meals are not available during summer break.

The Big Picture: Across all Wegmans locations in nine states, customers donated $769,300 during the drive, a record and $43,000 more than in 2025. Wegmans has run the campaign since 2013.
