An MTA bus crashed into a building on Reisterstown Road in Pikesville Wednesday, injuring 33 people. Baltimore County firefighters and paramedics responded in large numbers to treat the injured.
What we know: The crash happened in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road. The bus hit the building and also struck seven or more other vehicles, at least one of which rolled over. Two people were trapped — one inside the bus and one inside a car.
The rescue: Firefighters freed the most seriously injured person at 6:47 p.m. A medical helicopter flew that person to a nearby hospital. A trauma team was also on scene. All 28 injured people had been taken to hospitals by 7:18 p.m.
By the numbers: 28 people were injured. 15 ambulances responded. Additional ambulances from Howard and Anne Arundel counties also helped at the scene.
What’s still unknown: The condition of the other patients has not been confirmed. The cause of the crash has not been released. It is not known how many people were on the bus at the time.

The Governor Speaks: Maryland Governor Wes Moore said he has been closely monitoring the bus crash. “My administration is closely monitoring the situation following the multi-vehicle crash involving a MTA bus in Baltimore County. Dawn and I are keeping everyone impacted in our hearts and prayers. We are deeply grateful for our first responders who acted with speed and skill to ensure the safety of our neighbors. We’ve been in close coordination with local officials to provide any support needed on the ground,” he said.
