A fire broke out early Wednesday morning at a Burger King in Chester, leaving the fast food chain with a flame-broiled problem it did not order.
What happened: A manager called 911 at 7:23 a.m. after discovering a fire at the Burger King at 70 Kent Town Market. Firefighters from the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department arrived and had the fire under control in 10 minutes.
What’s important: The fire started outside the building, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, which is investigating the cause. The smoke alarm was not working at the time of the fire, though the building’s fire alarm did activate. Damage is estimated at $40,000 to the structure and $5,000 to its contents.
What we know: No one was hurt. Investigators have not determined whether the fire was accidental or intentional.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Upper Eastern Regional Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at (410) 819-3500. Tips can be submitted anonymously.
