The Maryland State Highway Administration is warning drivers to expect heavier traffic and possible delays near Laurel Park starting Thursday as the 151st Preakness Stakes gets underway.

What’s Happening: Racing events begin Thursday at Laurel Park, which is hosting Preakness week activities. The Preakness Stakes itself is the second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown.

Roads to watch: The agency flagged three roads near the track for expected congestion:

  • U.S. 1 (Washington Boulevard)
  • MD 198 (Laurel Fort Meade Road)
  • MD 32 (Patuxent Freeway)

What drivers should know: The highway administration is asking drivers to stay alert, follow posted speed limits, and not drive impaired.
