The Maryland State Highway Administration is reducing Maryland 4 from three lanes to two lanes near Dower House Road in Upper Marlboro starting Thursday night. The change affects about 2,500 feet of road and will remain in place until a larger traffic switch this summer.
What’s Happening: The highway administration will shift traffic overnight Thursday beginning at 8 p.m., weather permitting. The lane reduction is needed to build a connection to a temporary roadway. Variable message signs and barrier walls will mark the new traffic pattern.
What Drivers Should Know:
- Single- and double-lane closures will occur from 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday
- The two-lane configuration will stay in effect until a larger traffic switch later this summer
- Extra travel time should be expected during overnight closures
