Severe thunderstorms and dangerous heat are in the forecast for Maryland Thursday and Friday, the National Weather Service said.

What’s Happening: Storms are expected both days, with heat and humidity climbing through the end of the week. Highs will reach 81 to 97 degrees Thursday and Friday, with overnight lows between 61 and 75 degrees.

What’s Important: The heat risk rises to Moderate to Severe Thursday and Friday afternoon. Heat index values — what the air actually feels like when humidity is factored in — could top 100 degrees, mainly at lower elevations near and east of the I-81 corridor.

How This Affects Real People: Conditions above 100 degrees on the heat index can be dangerous for older adults, young children, and anyone working or spending time outside.
