A man was airlifted to a trauma center Saturday night after shooting himself in the leg in Lexington Park.
What’s Happening: The 21-year-old sustained an upper leg wound from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot. Responders arrived at the 46000 block of Franklin Road at approximately 9:28 p.m.
What’s Important: Officers secured the area before medical personnel could provide care. The severity of the leg injury prompted a request for Maryland State Police Trooper 7. Firefighters established a helicopter landing zone at Great Mills High School. The man was loaded onto the aircraft there and airlifted to a MedStar trauma center.
What Happens Next: Authorities continue to investigate the shooting. No one else was injured.
