A detached barn and garage burned for 45 minutes in Carroll County Friday after a propane torch used to clear weeds ignited nearby combustible materials.

What’s Happening: The fire broke out at 6515 Runkles Road in Mount Airy just after noon Friday. The owner discovered the fire, which started inside the structure.

What’s Important: Thirty firefighters from the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company brought the blaze under control in 45 minutes. No one was injured. The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal ruled the cause accidental, estimating damage at $100,000.
