A Lusby woman died early Friday morning when a driver fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy crashed into her car in Prince Frederick.

What’s Happening: 58-year-old Servon Gatewood was driving on Route 4 around 12:30 a.m. on December 12 when 32-year-old Savon Samuel of Pikesville crashed into her Honda sedan. Police say Samuel refused to stop for a traffic violation and was being followed by a Calvert County Sheriff’s deputy when he entered the intersection of Stoakley Road and Route 4 and struck Gatewood’s car. Gatewood was taken to a hospital where she died.

What’s Important: Samuel was arrested by Maryland State Police and taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Two other people in a Kia SUV that was also hit in the crash were treated at a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

The Deputy: Deputy Ryan Campbell has four years of service with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and is assigned to the Patrol Division. He was wearing a body camera during the incident.

What Happens Next: The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office is investigating what happened.
