A 2-month-old girl, Aida Alvarado, was pronounced dead at Harbor Hospital in Baltimore early Tuesday after medical staff found signs of trauma on her body. Her parents were taken into custody the same morning.
Katerin Monzon-Alvarado and Oscar Pineda, both 21, were charged with first- and second-degree child abuse, first- and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
Homicide charges are pending the outcome of an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Officers responded to the hospital around 1 a.m. on September 9. Homicide detectives went to the family’s home, took both parents into custody, and interviewed them before consulting with the State’s Attorney’s Office on charges.
Both remain held at Central Booking.
