Snow emergency plans are now in effect in 10 Maryland counties. Vehicles parked along snow emergency routes must be moved or will be towed.
What’s Happening: Maryland State Police announced Sunday that snow emergency plans are active in Calvert, Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, St. Mary’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester counties.
What’s Important: All vehicles parked along designated snow emergency routes must be moved immediately. Vehicles that remain will be towed. The emergency plans allow first responders to operate safely and let road crews restore safe travel conditions.
What Snow Emergency Plans Do: Snow emergency plans temporarily prohibit parking on certain roads during winter weather events. The designated routes are typically main roads and highways where emergency vehicles and snowplows need clear access.
Counties activate these plans when snow or ice creates hazardous conditions that require immediate road treatment.
