Maryland ranks 19th among states for children’s health care, according to a WalletHub study released Tuesday.
What’s Happening: WalletHub analyzed all 50 states and the District of Columbia using 33 indicators related to cost, quality, and access to children’s health care. Maryland scored 53.61 points out of 100.
What’s Important: Maryland ranked 16th in kids’ health and access to health care, 21st in kids’ nutrition, physical activity, and obesity, and 26th in kids’ oral health. Massachusetts ranked first overall with 67.34 points. Mississippi ranked last with 37.69 points.
The Rankings: The study measured factors including the percentage of children in excellent or very good health, the number of pediatricians and family doctors per capita, insurance coverage rates, infant mortality rates, vaccination rates, access to healthy food, obesity rates, and dental care access.
WalletHub collected data as of March 10, 2026, from sources including the U.S. Census Bureau, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Dental Association.
