A propane or electrical explosion destroyed a Chestertown home Saturday evening, killing the 68-year-old homeowner and a family pet.
What Happened: Fire crews responded around 6 p.m. Saturday to the 6900 block of Pentridge Court after a reported house explosion. Six people were inside when the explosion occurred. Five family members escaped, but homeowner Charles William Heaps did not survive.
What’s Important: Deputy State Fire Marshals said preliminary findings indicate the explosion may have involved propane vapors or an electrical event. Investigators recovered evidence indicative of a gas-related explosion at the scene Saturday night, according to earlier coverage.
What We Know: The Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding departments responded to the explosion. Deputy State Fire Marshals and K9 Deacon investigated the scene Saturday night. Excavators were requested to assist with debris removal and the investigation.
