The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works announced Sunday its snow removal priorities as a winter storm continues across Maryland.

What’s Happening: The county clears main roads and collector roads first to ensure safe travel for first responders. Collector roads link main roads and local streets. Local streets are the second priority.

What’s Important: A local street is considered passable when at least one travel lane is accessible with a compact sedan or other basic front-wheel drive vehicle, even if the road is snow-packed. Snowplow drivers will provide no further service once a street meets that definition.

What Changed: Maryland is under Winter Storm Warnings as heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain hit the state Saturday through Monday. Governor Wes Moore declared a State of Emergency. Two Winter Storm Warnings cover different parts of Maryland.

Dorchester County’s warning runs through 7 p.m. Monday. Wicomico, Somerset, Inland Worcester, and Maryland Beaches are under warning through 7 p.m. Sunday. Four to 8 inches of snow and up to half an inch of ice are expected in some areas.
