County road crews are treating bridges and overpasses as light snow falls Friday morning across Anne Arundel County.

What’s Happening: The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works is monitoring weather and road conditions as snow falls across the county. Crews are patrolling roads and applying salt to bridges and overpasses to keep them safe.

What’s Important: About 1 inch of snow is expected to fall across Anne Arundel County, with most of it coming down between 7 and 9 a.m. Friday. Untreated roads, sidewalks and parking lots will be slippery during the morning hours. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Friday.

The Timeline: Snow is expected to taper off by early afternoon Friday, with mostly sunny conditions returning Saturday. Temperatures Friday will climb to the mid-30s, with a high near 34 degrees.

What It Means for You: Anne Arundel County Schools are operating on a 2-hour delay Friday. Fort Meade opens at 10 a.m. All Anne Arundel County Public Library branches will open at noon instead of their regular times.

The Big Picture: Temperatures dropped into the 20s overnight, cold enough for snow to stick on untreated surfaces. The combination of light snow and very cold temperatures creates treacherous travel conditions during the morning commute. Treated roads should remain wet, but bridges, overpasses and any untreated surfaces will be slick through Saturday morning as temperatures stay well below freezing.
