Harford County residents need to prepare for a messy mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain that could make roads dangerous Tuesday morning.

What’s Happening: The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 3 a.m. Tuesday and lasting until 1 p.m. This is the first major winter storm of the season.

• Snow will likely fall first, then mix with sleet and freezing rain across most of the county.

• Areas near the Pennsylvania border could see 1 to 4 inches of snow, while most other areas will get 1 to 2 inches of mixed precipitation and up to one tenth of an inch of ice.

What’s Important: The Tuesday morning commute will likely be affected by slippery roads. Drivers should plan extra time and use caution.

Between the Lines: Weather forecasters say the exact track of the storm is still uncertain, which means snow totals could change. If the storm stays colder longer, some areas could see more snow than currently expected.

What to Do: Slow down while driving and leave extra space between cars. Check road conditions by calling 511 before heading out.
