CLEAR SPRING — Maryland State Police have arrested four people in connection with a triple murder that happened after a house fire in Clear Spring on Nov. 18. Investigators say they expect to make more arrests.
What’s Happening: Police charged 47-yer-old Darnell Hawkins, of Baltimore, and 43-year-old Tony Smith, of Hagerstown, with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson. 46-year-old Maurice Mouzon, of Baltimore, faces charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, drug distribution and a handgun violation. 35-year-old Kierra White, of Glen Burnie, is charged with acting as an accessory after the fact to murder.
What’s Important: The victims were Brittany Ray, Harold Flichman, and Brianna Mae Weishaar, all from Clear Spring. Police say this was not a random attack and that the three victims lived at the home where they died.
How It Happened: Deputies responded to a house fire in the 13,000 block of National Pike just after 5 a.m. on Nov. 18. During their investigation, fire marshals found signs of foul play. Dogs trained to detect accelerants alerted at the home. The victims also had injuries that did not match typical fire-related trauma.
Between the Lines: All four suspects are being held without bond in different detention centers across Maryland. The arrests happened over the course of a week, starting Nov. 21 and ending Nov. 28.
