Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly declared a local state of emergency Friday ahead of a winter storm forecast by the National Weather Service.
What’s Happening: The declaration activates the county’s emergency operations plans and directs county departments to coordinate with the Maryland Department of Emergency Management and other agencies. The county’s Emergency Operations Center will be activated Saturday with staff and first responders working around the clock.
What’s Important: Governor Wes Moore declared a statewide emergency earlier this week. The local declaration allows Harford County to apply for federal funds to recoup storm-related expenses.
How This Affects Real People: Residents should call 911 only for emergencies. The Harford County Hotline at 410-838-5800 opens at 8 p.m. Saturday for non-emergency calls and questions. County officials are asking residents to stay off the roads and stay inside if possible.
