A survey of 3,015 U.S. workers who drive to work put the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (MD-295) at the top of a national list of commutes tied to stress, frustration, and aggressive driving.
Munley Law, a personal injury law firm, said it asked workers which roads they most associate with those feelings.
What’s Happening: Munley Law released a top-10 list of commutes it says drivers dread most, based on its survey of 3,015 workers who drive to work. MD-295 in Maryland ranked No. 1.
What’s Important: Munley Law said MD-295 was originally designed as a scenic parkway but now carries more traffic than intended. The firm said the road’s limited shoulders and two-lane-each-direction layout can create bottlenecks at merge points, and that crashes can block lanes and stretch delays.
The list: The survey’s top 10 commutes were:
- Baltimore–Washington Parkway (MD-295), Baltimore, Maryland
- US-101 (Hollywood Freeway), Los Angeles, California
- I-5 (Downtown LA through East LA Interchange), Los Angeles, California
- I-95 (Cross Bronx Expressway), Bronx, New York
- I-15 (Las Vegas Strip Area), Las Vegas, Nevada
- US-95 (Summerlin to Downtown), Las Vegas, Nevada
- Zakim Bridge / I-93 North, Boston, Massachusetts
- Garden State Parkway (Raritan Toll Plaza), Woodbridge, New Jersey
- I-75/I-85 (Downtown Connector), Atlanta, Georgia
- Long Island Expressway (I-495), Queens, New York
What They Said: “A lot of these rush hour frustrations will sound painfully familiar to anyone who drives regularly,” says Jack Cartwright, of Munley Law. “We hear these stories all the time from people involved in collisions – not because they were doing anything reckless, but because the road itself had become a pressure point. When traffic is unpredictable, and everyone’s on edge, small mistakes can snowball quickly. Understanding where those tensions build helps explain the kinds of cases we see every week.”
