A Pennsylvania woman died Sunday afternoon when a dump truck crossed into her lane on a Carroll County road, according to Maryland State Police.
What’s Happening: Sandra Stigler, a 73-year-old from Littlestown, Pennsylvania, was driving a pickup truck on Littlestown Pike when a dump truck traveling in the opposite direction crossed the double yellow line and hit her vehicle head-on, according to police. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
What’s Important: The crash shut down a section of Littlestown Pike between Old Hanover and Saw Mill roads for nearly four hours Saturday afternoon. Police have not said why the dump truck crossed into oncoming traffic.
Between the Lines: The driver of the dump truck, 52-year-old Matthew Lee Dell of Manchester, Maryland, was not hurt in the crash. State police are inspecting the commercial vehicle as part of their investigation.
