A federal judge sentenced a Baltimore man to 25 years in prison for posing as a police officer to kidnap and carjack a check-cashing business employee in 2021.

What’s Happening: 35-year-old Donte Davon Stanley received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Brendan A. Hurson. He’ll serve five years of supervised release after his prison term.

What’s Important: Stanley and a co-conspirator used a police-style light bar and wore police vests and badges to pull over their victim. A federal jury convicted Stanley in June 2024 after a three-week trial on charges of kidnapping and robbery conspiracies, kidnapping, and carjacking.

What Happened: From May 5-6, 2021, Stanley and co-conspirator 35-year-old Dennis Allen Hairston, of Catonsville, followed a woman from the check-cashing business where she worked. They used the fake police equipment to pull her over.

Stanley and Hairston brandished firearms, removed the woman from her vehicle, handcuffed her hands behind her back, zip-tied her feet, and blindfolded her with a mask and duct tape. They forced her into the back of a vehicle.

While Stanley drove, Hairston struck, sexually assaulted, and repeatedly burned the victim with a blowtorch to get information to access the check-cashing business and steal cash.

The Co-Conspirator: Judge Hurson sentenced Hairston to 40 years in federal prison in December 2025 for this case and a second abduction that occurred May 15-16, 2021.
