A Washington, D.C. man crashed into three vehicles on the Capital Beltway Monday evening after fleeing a traffic stop, Maryland State Police said.
What’s Happening: Jeremiah David Fairfax, 23, of Washington, D.C., was arrested after he sped away from a trooper attempting a traffic stop on I-495 at Glenarden Parkway in Landover. Fairfax crashed into three vehicles, got out of his car, and tried to run before being arrested.
What’s Important: The Honda Insight Fairfax was driving had been reported stolen to the Metropolitan Police Department. Police searched the vehicle and found a loaded 10mm Glock with a high-capacity magazine, suspected cocaine, suspected cyclobenzaprine, a scale, and other suspected illegal drugs.
The Charges: Fairfax is charged with felony motor vehicle theft, unlawful wearing and carrying of a loaded handgun, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or crime of violence, and other firearm and traffic-related charges. Additional drug-related charges are pending. He is being held without bond at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.
What Happened: Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on February 3, a Maryland State Trooper from the College Park Barrack saw Fairfax driving recklessly on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway and tried to pull him over. As both vehicles were pulling onto the shoulder, the Honda Insight sped back into traffic and crashed into three vehicles. Fairfax was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries from the crash.
The Investigation: Maryland State Police College Park and Forestville Barracks are leading the investigation with help from the Metropolitan Police Department.
